Freedom Is A Verb

Diminishing the fear that resides inside, engaging the shadows and demons of the unconscious mind and the ego, these are the first steps to liberating others, the world, and ourselves. From this place of compassion we can find the wisdom to live and act courageously in the world.

Peace Activist Cindy Sheehan inspired me to take action. After hearing her speak, I knew I could no longer sit on the sidelines. Yet even when I placed that “Impeach Bush” bumper sticker on my car, I had to wonder. Will my car be vandalized? Will my name be added to some “Un American” blacklist?

I recently joined Amnesty International; should have done it years ago. But that was when political torture existed elsewhere, not in our country. This is no longer the case. As I write this, President George Bush is actually petitioning Congress and the American people for special powers to override the Supreme Court’s ruling on Hamdan v. Rumsfeld. The greatest offense that can be done to another is torture and imprisonment for one’s beliefs — political, religious or otherwise. Apart from that, the second greatest offense is sitting on the sidelines.

Freedom is a verb.
